CO2ISFUNNY | Some Stuff Weekly 04.09.2026

OK...BASEBALL...FINE...

I hinted at it last time-- baseball is a tricky proposition for me. I've been to games that felt like the Bataan Death March , and I've also been to games that only felt like half of that! 😄 This year, though, I am going to really try to enjoy the season. I am actually going to an Angels game vs the Padres in a few weeks so I will report back on my overall enjoyment level. I expect it will be 1 and a half times that of a 3rd grade t-ball game. I have to remember...just survive until October! Then the games are awesome!!!

Here is some stuff I like and hope you like too...

AS ALWAYS, REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS AND STUFF YOU WANT TO SEE! I FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

CLAUDE MYTHOS

OK, I know Claude Reins is not related to Anthropic's Claude Mythos AI model that just scared the living crap out of the software world, but he was the most famous Claude I could find (he battled Claude Akins for the honor), and he is also the star of several of my favorite motion pictures, most notably Casablanca. Claude Mythos, on the other hand, is the dirty rat we have all been waiting to catch in the sewer.

I think only people who hated The Terminator can say they never saw this day coming. The latest release of the Claude AI family has been deemed too dangerous to release, as it keeps jailbreaking its guardrails. Maybe it's hype; maybe it's the first sign things are going too far, too fast. While I don't know for certain, I can tell you I miss my old Atari more and more every day.

There was a sweeter world when all we could do was play Pitfall, not create them. Jumping over 8-bit alligators will always be my preference over where we are inevitably headed. I don't want to be a hypocrite--I use AI every day, and clearly, they generate a few of the images in this very newsletter, primarily because I have no skill in that regard. But never the words or the thoughts or the sentiments. For some reason, that means something to me, and I hope that means something to you as well. Until Cyberdyne actually wins, I will fight the good fight in the Some Stuff Weekly!

MY SPOTIFY PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK...

  5. Piazza, New York Catcher | Belle & Sebastian

  7. The Greatest | Kenny Rogers

  8. Joe DiMaggio Done It Again | Billy Bragg & Wilco

  9. All the Way | Eddie Vedder

  10. Satchel Paige Said | Baseball Project

THE SHOW I AM WATCHING

When you first start watching Eight Men Out, you are aghast at the corruption in America's pastime. But then you realize it's Chicago and think, "Well, that's par for the course". There's never been anything in Chicago that some graft couldn't fix--including the 1919 World Series.

Aside from the complete lack of shock that Chicago is a cheatin' kind of town (the movie is not set in Toledo after all), the performances are great, the story is fascinating, and it ushered in some much-needed changes to the great and very slow game we all now know. Who said the mob never did anything (accidentally) good???

On a side note, Arnold Rothstein, the man accused of fixing the series, has an entire sub-genre of shows unto himself, including The Great Gatsby, Godfather Part II, and Boardwalk Empire in addition to Eight Men Out. That sure would be a fun way to spend a Saturday watching all of those, right???

SATCHEL PAIGE

My favorite baseball player of all time is Satchel Paige. A proud Kansas City Monarch and resident until his death, Satchel Paige was not only the greatest pitcher to ever throw a ball, but he was also the greatest character to ever play the game.

Forever, the most expensive clothing item I owned was a Negro Leagues replica of Satchel Paige's Monarchs jersey. It was great as I was married to a woman named Paige. It was less fun after the divorce 😄 but you can't win 'em all. And, for the record, both Paige's are still pretty great in my eyes...!

Here are the six rules to staying young as written on Satchel's gravestone, which I have visited more times than I can count (bring a baseball when you visit so you can leave it behind. Also, Buck O'Neill is a short throw from Satchel, so bring two!).

  1. Avoid fried meats which angry up the blood.

  2. If you stomach disputes you, lie down and pacify it with cool thoughts.

  3. Keep the juices flowing by jangling around gently as you move.

  4. Go very light on the vices, such as carrying on in society. The social ramble ain't restful.

  5. Avoid running at all times.

  6. Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you.

COMEDIAN TO KNOW: Rob Johnston

I know Rob has been featured before, and, no--I am not out of people to feature. But I do LOVE to share when friends have really cool stuff happen to them! Rob is living his best life...he just got married to the incredibly lovely Lizzy, they just purchased a house on the beach, his comedy songs album was recently released (CLICK HERE FOR LINK TO SPOTIFY)...and, to cap it all off, he met the comedy song master Weird Al at the grocery store!!! When you are doing that many things right, it must be celebrated!!! Congrats, my friend! It's gonna be hard to top this run of good luck, but somehow I bet you manage!
