MY OLYMPIC FLAME IS ALMOST EXTINGUISHED...

After all of my accomplishments during this 2026 Winter Olympics, it is time to pack up my snow gear and get ready for the World Cup (after March Madness, of course!)... I had a tremendous O-games (while listening to O-Town, keeping my by band dream alive). I was able to watch around 45 minutes of the games per day, which I feel is just the right amount. More than baseball, less than football. If these games have taught me one thing, it is that there are a ton of sports I know nothing about! I need to start brushing up on soccer before summer. I still have no idea what offsides is... BELIEVE, right Ted Lasso?!?!?!

Here is some stuff I like and hope you like too...

AS ALWAYS, REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS AND STUFF YOU WANT TO SEE! I FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

LENT

I have no idea where this ad is from, and I am certain the deal is not currently active, but when I was a kid, this was absolute heaven! A Filet-o-Fish and a Shamrock Shake?!?!?! Ummmm...yes please! It satisfied both my Irish side and the part that hails from whatever Norse fishing village vikings and a stray ancestor come from. It's funny how so many of my memories of being a kid revolve aroung going places with my dad--McDonalds being high on that list as it was an easy, fast treat! When he would let me tag along on a dumb errand like going to the store or filling the car up with gas, and it was just the two of us hanging out, and then we would always end up getting a shake but I wasn't supposed to tell my mom--best memories ever!

I am probably not as spiritual as I ought to be, but I like these days because they remind me to at least keep trying to be better...

And if a Filet-o-Fish helps on that journey, even better!

MY SPOTIFY PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK...

Fab Chris & Why It's So Hard to Like Ringo...

Catholic grade school confession time... I am not a big Beatles fan. I don't dislike them (except Ringo), but they never really jumped out and grabbed me. Probably just the generation. By the time I became familiar with Paul McCartney, he was Silly Love Songs and Say Say Say. Objectively, not his finest work. John was gone, George was making Monty Python movies, and Ringo...Ringo was on tour with the All-Star Band. And I would always think to myself...who is going to this show??? He sang 11 songs in the Beatles, and not a one was bearable. Whenever I hear Octopus' Garden, I just wanna go to Red Lobster for calamari. Ringo... stay home! The world does not need your tour. Just stay in London and make weird peace videos and thank the Lord your name is not Pete Best.

Having said that, here are my 10 favorite Beatles songs that Ringo does not sing on...

  1. Free As A Bird | Beatles

  2. Rain | Beatles

  3. Two of Us | Beatles

  4. I Me Mine | Beatles

  5. Ticket To Ride | Beatles

  6. And Your Bird Can Sing | Beatles

  7. In My Life | Beatles

  8. Across the Universe | Beatles

  9. Girl | Beatles

  10. Real Love | Beatles

BTW...my buddy Donnie D was a DJ forever up in the Bay Area. I was thinking of you while writing this, my friend! I was envisioning you spinning some 45's and collecting that sweet payola money! 😀

THE SHOW I AM WATCHING

Open Range

My heart aches with this one...I love movies. The larger-than-life actors that make Hollywood so special are one of the biggest reasons I moved here. Few were larger to me than Robert Duvall. So many great films--The Godfather's (obviously), Tender Mercies, To Kill A Mockingbird, Get Low, The Judge...and Open Range.

Open Range fights it out with Get Low as my favorite. His portrayal as Boss Spearman alongside Kevin Costner's Charlie Waite is powerful and reserved, as he became in his later roles. It's easy to like Tom Hayden in The Godfathers...the movies were such amazing ensemble pieces. In Open Range, though, it is a character study of two men in the final days of the West, fighting for a losing cause. The final shootout in the movie is, for my money, the best in all of westerns. It is shocking and unexpected, incredibly believable, and yet lowkey at the same time. If you watch it, you will get it.

R.I.P Robert Duvall.

IT'S THE CO2LYMPICS 2026

I gotta say it...week two of the Olympics is like watching a sequel. Most of the same stuff as before, but just slightly less interesting than the first go-around. I think it is just because I am so unfamiliar with most of these sports. I was laughing with my sister Kat-- the notion of an out of shape, middle aged man from Wichita judging the technique of figure skaters and downhill skiers is outright ludicrous. I am only qualified to judge mall walking and bagel eating. Add lox to a bagel and I am the German judge--it's always a 9. Still, I love the pageantry and tradition, and I can hardly wait for the Closing Ceremony. It always reminds me of Beavis & Butthead--FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

My final medal count will be underwhelming...

  • 1 pyrite nugget I got from a gas station in Arizona (I borrowed the pyrite line from Jess...😀😀😀)

  • 11 silver looking yogurt foils

  • 1 bronze commemorative penny pressed in a novelty machine outside of El Cerrito. Ironically, it says something about the gold rush!

Not the haul America was expecting, but beggars can't be choosers. I would blame my ACL but it seems to be fine... Go figure!

COMEDIAN TO KNOW: MARY KENNEDY

Mary Kennedy is a legend. You may remember her from Shameless, but I know her best as my first comedy coach. Upon landing on the shores of LA, I met Mary at a comedy show and she said she ran a comedy writing workshop. Intrigued, I attended and the rest is history (or just stuff in the past...😀). She has been touring the world lately with her one-person show Hail Mary, None of the Grace, most recently having been in Edinburgh Fringe, and finally returning to LA for a handful of performances. Catch her if you can, or check out her comedy clips online!

CLIP OF THE WEEK

Lots of shows these next few weeks, including doing my first hour, as well as shows in Santa Barbara and Hollywood. Don't miss them! Or do miss them but lie to me about it and say they were great...

In the meantime, here is one more oldie before I load a bunch of new content...

In honor of my Santa Barbara show this weekend (with the absolutely amazing and insanely lovely Jessica Winther!!!), here is a set from my first show there...
