HEY! HOW'S THE WEATHER?!?!...

I loved a great many things about living in the Midwest. Insane weather was near the top of the list! Tornadoes, blizzards, thunderstorms that shook the earth... I loved them all!...right up until I didn't! I could handle literally all of it except the cold. Unfortunately they go hand in poorly mittened hand.

For all of my friends in the midwest, south and eventually east coast, I feel for you this weekend. Stay warm and stay safe! If you get a chance to get out and cross-country ski, it might be like a precursor to the Olympics!

Here is some stuff I like and hope you like too...

AS ALWAYS, REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS AND STUFF YOU WANT TO SEE! I FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

NFL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND

Oh, what I would give to be on the NFL coaching carousel right now!!! Maybe the lowly Browns will be desperate enough to hire a coach with no practical experience other than being the Golden Arm of 14th Street neighborhood football in Wichita in the 80's. Seems like enough of a claim to fame to coach Shedeur Sanders! BTW... I don't know these kids. I couldn't find a pic of being a kid so I stole one from Pinterest. We didn't have a cool truck like that one...

Let's get to the picks!

  • SUN | PATRIOTS @ BRONCOS | PICK: PATRIOTS

    • Ummmmm...???? Really?!?!?! This game just went from really interesting to "Yikes!!!". Bo Nix with a broken leg means Jarrett Stidham gets the start. That is Jarrett Stidham in his most recent game experience in the picture above (maybe...that could be a lie 🙂). I remember fondly his epic battles with fabled legend QB1 Gardner Minschew when they were both with the Raiders. They have both have moved on to greener pastures, but Stidham has a chance to lead an improbable Broncos win and get them back to the Super Bowl... he won't. Patriots de-Bellichek their franchise and start a new era.

  • SUN | RAMS @ SEAHAWKS | PICK: RAMS

    • Rams just have that feeling of a team of destiny in what has already been a good year. This is the game when all of the city's mojo comes together-- Shohei Ohtani catching passes from Matt Stafford; Mookie Betts clearing out routes for Devonte Adams. I am here for it all. The Rams are NOT my team. That will always be the Chiefs come rain or shine (or snow and ice). But the Rams have slid into second with a walkoff homer to beat the Labatt Blue out of all things Canadian. Seattle qualifies as Southern Vancouver as they are dangerously close to that border. McVay uses his school lunch card to treat the team to a pizza party when its over. Go Rams!

MY SPOTIFY PLAYLIST IF I WAS STILL IN COLLEGE...

If you assumed my musical tastes are horrible, then congratulations--you are correct. My Spotify thinks I am a 12 year old girl in 1992--lots of emo-songs about breakups and feelings. Odd since I never had girlfriends back then, so there was nothing to really be emo about!

But if I was to create a playlist of my 10 favorite college songs--all to be enjoyed at mid-tempo to keep your blood pressure down--here they would be:

  1. King of Birds | REM

  2. Girlfriend in a Coma | The Smiths

  3. Valerie Loves Me | Material Issue

  4. Shallow | Heavenly

  5. I Wanna Be Adored | Stone Roses

  6. There She Goes | The La's

  7. Grey Cell Green | Ned's Atomic Dustbin

  8. Please Do Not Go | Violent Femmes

  9. Drifting, Falling | The Ocean Blue

  10. Why Won't You Stay | American Music Club

Feel Free to listen and cry along with me!

THE SHOW I AM WATCHING

My One & Only

This movie was not a hit. In fact it was never released...anywhere. Nowhere. Its entire existence has been scrubbed from existence with the exception of a few minor mentions if one searches hard enough.

It wasn't good...but it was a helluva lot of fun. I thought I could write a raunchy teen comedy in the spirit of American Pie. This was 2001. It was fashionable then. And while it did not lead to fame or fortune, it did launch my production company, introduce me to lifelong friends--most notably my good buddy and future President of the US Heather Wiley, and result in one amazing goddaughter in cute little Avalon. All in all, pretty good deal.

CLIP OF THE WEEK

In honor of Harry's teary day in court this week, here is a reminder of the fate befalling most British monarchs...

COMEDIAN TO KNOW: CELIA HERVAS

Sometimes you are good friends with someone and you have no idea why. That is Celia Hervas. We have nothing in common, she is 59 years younger than me, we share zero cultural milestones or touchpoints...and yet I think she is one of the funniest people I have met in LA. The first time I saw her perform comedy, I thought--I need to write a show with this person. So, many iterations of a script and show idea later--during which time she keeps trying to put in a character called Snake Wife--, she is a good buddy and the all-time weirdest little sister who I would probably let get beat up at recess because watching her take revenge would be worth it. Her boyfriend's band is on Spotify and awesome as well (Father Bankston for you music-lovin' kids out there). If she is on a show in your neighborhood, do not miss her. She is nuts!

FORWARD TO A FRIEND, ETC

Please do me a favor and forward to a. friend. You get no prize other than my undying gratitude (and maybe a free ticket to a show when I am in your area if you let me know!).

I am very grateful to each and every one of you for your support and follows and likes, etc. You all are the best!

See you next week!
