Hip + Pelvic Floor Connection, Your Cycle, and Looking forward to April!

March was a busy one! Thank you to everyone who joined me at Barre3, grabbed a pint at Severance for Trivia Night, and came out to learn more about pelvic floor PT at the ICAN meeting! We’re so lucky to have such an engaged community!

As I look forward to April, there’s definitely a sense of new beginnings, renewal, and balance 🌸 It’s the perfect theme for our Spring Prenatal Yoga Series. I’m so proud to be able to bring this to Sioux Falls and hope you’ll participate! This round, we are opening up a virtual option. So while the program is specifically for pregnancy, no one will know if you’re just enjoying a flowy yoga sesh with Heather behind your screen (sans baby bump 😜)

April is a month full of birthdays in my family! We will be busy celebrating my oldest son’s 6th birthday and my 37th! Every year that passes I feel like I’m growing more and more into myself!

Pelvic Health Topic of the Month:

Hips + the Pelvic Floor

The hip is one of the body’s largest weight-bearing joints, playing a major role in how we move + stabilize. Because it carries so much of our daily load, it’s especially vulnerable to wear + tear over time—leading to weakness, discomfort, or increased risk of injury.

Your hips do a lot more than help you walk. They’re central to your body’s movement, posture, balance, + even your pelvic floor function. When your hips are strong + mobile, the rest of your body works better too.

So, what's the connection between your hips + pelvic floor? I'm so glad you asked.

The muscles surrounding the hips—like the glutes, hip flexors, + deep rotators—are deeply connected to the pelvic floor. When hip mobility is limited or certain muscle groups are overcompensating, the pelvic floor often steps in to help. Over time, this can lead to tension, weakness, or overactivity.

That’s why supporting hip health isn’t just about the hips—it’s about restoring balance and ease throughout the entire core, pelvis, and lower body.

If you’re experiencing hip discomfort, tension, or pelvic floor symptoms, it might be time to book a pelvic floor physical therapy session with us! A personalized assessment can help you understand what’s going on beneath the surface and guide you toward lasting relief and strength.

🌸 Your Cycle + Spring Energy

At Uprise Pelvic Health, your cycle isn’t a side note—it’s a part of your story we hold with care. Let's listen to our bodies, shall we?

1️⃣ We start with where you’re at

If you’re bleeding, we honor rest. If you’re ovulating, we might explore strength + expansion. Each session starts with a conversation—your cycle is always invited.

2️⃣ Nervous system support first

Hormonal shifts impact tension and sensitivity. Whether you’re feeling more tender or more open, we begin with breath, grounding, + nervous system care.

3️⃣ Hands-on work meets your season

From gentle release during your luteal phase to building strength in your follicular window, we align manual therapy + movement with where your body is in its cycle.

4️⃣ You’ll carry tools that align with what your body is asking for today

We don’t expect your body to feel the same every week—so your care plan won’t either. You'll leave with exercises that meet your cycle right where it is.

Pelvic floor therapy is about listening to your body, not pushing through it.

Your bleeding days are NOT a barrier to care—they’re part of your rhythm, + we honor that. Whether you’re seeking gentle support, release work, or simply a safe space to land, your cycle is always welcome here.
