Remember the winter of 2021 and what it did to people, homes, businesses and the Texas economy? The chief meteorologist for the Energy Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, says winter 2025 is shaping up to be like the one four years ago—warm but with a period of extreme cold and a potential storm in the early part of 2025.

Here is a list of “TO DO'S” before below freezing temperatures hit.

Thank you to Mark Bradford from Allie Beth Allman & Associates for these great tips!

☑︎ Protect Your Pipes: Wrap exposed pipes with insulation or pipe sleeves. Let faucets drip to prevent freezing.

☑︎ Check Your Heating System: Ensure your furnace is working efficiently and replace filters if needed.

☑︎ Inspect Your Roof and Gutters: Clear gutters of debris to prevent ice buildup and check for loose shingles.

☑︎ Prepare Your Fireplace: If you have a fireplace, stock up on firewood and inspect the chimney for safety.

☑︎ Test Your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Ensure they are functioning properly in case of alternative heat sources.

☑︎ Seal Drafts: Check doors and windows for drafts and use weather stripping or caulk to seal them.

☑︎ Cover Outdoor Faucets: Use faucet covers or insulate them to prevent freezing. Disconnect and store garden hoses.

☑︎ Trim Tree Branches:
Remove branches that could break under the weight of snow or ice.

☑︎ Stock Up on Supplies: Have salt, shovels, flashlights, batteries, and warm blankets on hand.

☑︎ Keep an Emergency Kit Ready: Include bottled water, non-perishable food, and a first-aid kit in case of power outages.
