KITCHEN CABINET TRENDS

Renovating your home's kitchen cabinets is a significant expense that requires careful consideration. NDR advises against trends and recommends timeless choices. The right choice can set the tone for the overall mood of your kitchen, which is why it's essential to choose colors that provide a calm and comfortable feel.

In 2024, the trend is leaning towards a serene and timeless vibe with colors like Alabaster or Skyline Steel from Sherwin Williams. A notable trend is using neutral color pallets throughout the home, including a variety of blues or greens. While darker colors such as charcoal or black, deep midnight blue or dark emerald green remain popular.

Some timeless colors that never go out of style are white, creamy or off-white, black, and of course, natural wood. The use of wood is on the rise, showcasing a growing appreciation for the organic beauty and texture of wood as homeowners embrace nature-inspired aesthetics. Going overboard with wood in rooms by way of wall paneling and layering large furniture pieces of different species is especially in vogue because it adds an intense organic warmth and texture. All-white kitchens have been slowly phasing out, and according to the NKBA, we can look to wood to add warmth and texture to the kitchen in 2024.

In fact, NKBA designers predict wood as the second most popular color for kitchens in the next three years, beating out white and closely following green, the top color.

The National Kitchen & Bath Association’s newly released 2024 Kitchen Trends Report indicates that more and more homeowners are opting for warm wood finishes, including walnut and white oak, over simple all-white kitchen cabinets. According to Sarah Robertson, founder and principal of Studio Dearborn, "We've seen a very noticeable transition from white kitchens to white oak cabinetry. The pushback from white has resulted in a drive toward warmer tones in the kitchen."

Kelsey McGregor, founder of Kelsey Leigh Interiors, agrees that warm wood kitchens are timeless and instantly cozy, approachable, and inviting. When it comes to renovating your kitchen cabinets, choose wisely, and aim for a timeless and cozy feel that will stand the test of time.
