AI Could Benefit All with Strategic Planning, Collaboration

Written by: Reagan Flowers, Ph.D.

The upcoming 2025 Milken Institute Global Conference is challenging today's business leaders to think boldly and work collaboratively across sectors to shape a more inclusive, sustainable future. A compelling essay by Robert F. Smith, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, sets the stage for how artificial intelligence (AI) can be a catalyst for that future—particularly when applied thoughtfully to STEM education and workforce development.

STEM Excellence on Display: Sheldon ISD Hosts Successful Challenge Day

Sheldon Independent School District recently culminated months of preparation with its 8th Annual C-STEM Challenge Day—an event that showcases student innovation, creativity, and teamwork. (Note: one of the past years was held virtually due to COVID-19.)

Student teams from across ten Sheldon ISD campuses competed in various categories, including robotics, innovation, sea turtle sculpture, and mosaic mural. The student's project solutions theme was "Resiliency: Addressing the Heat Island Effect and Water Management." This year's exciting competition was hosted at C.E. King Middle School, bringing together students, educators, and community members to celebrate hands-on learning and the power of STEM.

And a HUGE Salute to our VOLUNTEERS! Thank you for helping the day run smoothly!

D.C. Students Lead the Way in STEM Exploration and Discovery

Throughout the 2024–25 academic year, students at Whittier Elementary School in Washington, D.C. have been deeply engaged in researching and developing STEM-based solutions to real-world sustainability challenges.

Made possible through a partnership between C-STEM and Dow, the program centered around a powerful and timely theme: "Resiliency—Addressing the Heat Island Effect and Water Management."

Students explored this theme through hands-on, project-based learning that integrated science, technology, engineering, art, and communication. The culmination of their work was a dynamic and visually impressive showcase, featuring a mosaic mural, sea turtle sculpture, photography exhibition, innovation prototypes, and a synthesis project that unified all elements into a cohesive and creative presentation of solutions.

This partnership highlights the impact of STEM education when students are empowered to apply their learning to meaningful, community-connected challenges.
