The Starting Point.

It's funny. I should have written this as my first-ever email in this series. Thing is, even months after I wrote my Ask Me Anything on Reddit, people have still approached and asked me where to start.

I think it boils down to these steps:

  1. Fix your resume. While Canva and Visme make resumes and documents really pretty, it's the content that matters. Position yourself to look good in front of a recruiter. Just your educational background and work experience won't do. Highlight your skills. Modify it in a way that will make you look more hireable to your target company. [Tips] [Inspiration]

  2. Create a pretty portfolio.

  3. Apply to jobs you find. Believe it or not, Facebook Groups are actually great sources of jobs!

  4. Kill it in your interviews. [Tips / Inspiration]

  5. Learn software, especially Project Management software like Notion, Trello, and Airtable. Loom and Tango are also very useful, especially if you end up teaching your peers.

  6. If you decide to niche down, learn more and upskill in that niche.

  7. Don't be crippled by procrastination, fear of the unknown, and being overwhelmed. Pick 3 to 5 of the job websites you find in a day and attack applications one by one.

Artificial Intelligence In Jobhunting

AI is everywhere nowadays. To be honest, I use AI on a daily basis in some of my tasks, especially in content creation. However, I discourage its use in jobhunting. I'll share with you my thoughts on AI in Jobhunting.

The Good:

  • You can get ideas about how to create a better resume.

  • You can get ideas on how to perform better in interviews.

  • You can get ideas with how to create a Cover Letter.

The Bad:

  • SOME recruiters actually check the use of AI in application submissions. I suggest not using it at all.

  • If you MUST take a risk with AI in your application, HUMANIZE your AI output with this: https://undetectable.ai

  • AI tends to produce answers with some inaccurate details. You might want to double-check.

The Bottom Line:

  • When I was a recruiter, I kicked out a person we chose from the interview when I discovered he had used AI for his responses. When I had requested him to rewrite his work, he sent in another AI response. That was when I took him off the Training Period. I strongly suggest not using AI at all.

  • However, if you struggle to write a cover letter, use Undetectable AI to humanize your Cover Letter and application submissions, and then check them with the AI Checkers I share in the next section below.

Always check your work after you generate via AI.

After running the text through Undetectable AI, you may also ask Gemini (formerly Google Bard) or ChatGPT: "Did you write this: [paste the text after this prompt]." If it still contains traces of its own structure, the AI will usually own up to it, especially ChatGPT. But DO run through the content generators for greater accuracy.

  • Pair your application with a great, well-written Cover Letter.

  • Make sure your CV / Resumé and Portfolio look awesome and make you look competent.

  • Stay away from Monochrome. Use blues, because blue is the color of "trustworthiness" in business.
