HUSSY NEWS #69: C’mon Eileen, Don’t Call Me Dexy, Baby Girl

Well hello there, my SPF-lacking, over-tanned, and emotionally undercooked Hussy.

Cooking oil is not SPF-certified, Becca.

We’re in that weird stretch of summer.

The Fourth of July is behind us.

Football is peeking around the corner.

It’s hotter than a witch’s… you know what.

Air conditioning feels like an economic negotiation these days.

So does sunscreen.

The World Cup is over.

Please join me in congratulating the Arctic bobsled team on their stunning upset over Drake from Degrassi.

The orange slices are in the mail.

LeBron is still stealing the spotlight and dragging out every painful second to make his decision.

Buddy…

It was cute in 2011.

Now you’re throwing yourself another Sweet 16 from the retirement home.

Betty White is closer to her prime.

Pick a team already.

Unless it’s Minnesota.

Then take your time.

Becca will pick you up in her ’98 Ford Taurus if you need a ride to the mall.

As of publication, LeBron is still undecided. If that’s changed by the time you read this, please pretend you opened the email sooner.

Summer…

You were fun, baby girl.

QUICK HUSSY UPDATE

Comedy has felt really, really good lately.

After recording my special, I went through a bit of a creative lull.

It reminded me of bands that spend years writing their first album… then suddenly have to figure out album number two.

Somebody better call Eileen…

Because my name isn’t Dexy and I run way past midnight.

I am not a one-hit wonder.

It feels like I’ve been playing Contra, and my brother and his friends wouldn’t share the cheat code, so I got stuck.

It took a sec, but…

Now it feels like I finally punched out Tyson… then beat Bowser, Krang, Shredder, Ganon…

…then went back and kicked Tyson and my brother and his friends in the nuts.

And the liver.

I love the material I’m writing now.

I’m having more fun on stage than I have in a long time.

Huge shoutout to everyone at Flappers.

I had the chance to close Move Up Mondays this week.

The show was a blast.

Great lineup.

Great people.

I’m still adding dates throughout the summer and into the fall, so if you’d like to come see me, keep an eye on DeniseWinkelmanComedy.com.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

I’ve realized I’m a “why” person.

I don’t just want to know what happened.

I want to know why it happened.

Maybe that’s why I loved wrestling so much growing up.

Not just the matches.

The stories backstage.

The relationships.

The psychology.

The creative process.

The peek behind the curtain.

It’s why I love hearing other artists talk about process.

It’s why I fell in love with wrestling.

It’s why I’ll happily spend six hours listening to former CIA officer John Kiriakou explain how it all works behind the scenes.

The why is almost always more interesting than the headline.

Unless it’s Santa.

I don’t need to know.

Protect the magic, baby girl.

HUSSY COMEDIAN OF THE WEEK

Greg Warren

Legend.

Killer.

One of the best in the game.

I’ve probably watched Greg Warren’s “Work Hard, Play Hard” bit a hundred times.

It’s one of those bits that’s so well written and so perfectly performed that it reminds you how much fun stand-up is.

If you’ve never seen it…

Do yourself a favor.

WATCH IT!

Until next week…

Watch something that makes you laugh.

Learn something that makes you think.

Ask “why” a little more often.

And LeBron, if you decide Minnesota is the move…

Becca will happily pick you up in her ’98 F.T.

The heater doesn’t work and the seat belts are missing.

Bring your own helmet and bubble suit.

You’ll be fine, Baby Girl.

Your TL from the DL,

Denise Winkelman
