Pride Settles in for the Season
Pride in Canada began its march to victory with the inaugural Toronto Pride Parade in 1981. The city of Toronto endorsed it officially in 1991. Since then, Pride has gone mainstream.
Initially the concept was that Pride should be tolerated by the majority, despite significant misgiving by many. A grudging tolerance has now been transformed into a full fledged celebration. Pride has now evolved and progressed into the successful colonisation of the whole summer season, complete with parades and flag flying across every town and village across the land. Small Town, Big Pride has found its way into every nook and cranny.
Nowadays it is commonplace to see shops, public places and private businesses adorn their frontages with flag and banner evidence that they too have joined the ranks of the enlightened. Misgivings may no longer be expressed publicly. Public acceptance is no longer an option. It is expected. Expressions of disapproval are no longer acceptable. Dissidents risk severe reproval.
Pride has arrived. We are now subjected to a summer long Pride Season, a term most recently endorsed by our Prime Minister as seen in the Good, Bad and Ugly article below.
Whilst we at B2B may have personal opinions about informed choices that adults make for themselves, these are their decisions to make. However, when it comes to adults foisting their adult ideologies onto vulnerable children of all ages, we draw the line. Let adults be adults and let children be children. This is the hill on which we choose to stand and die.
While we enjoy those summer dawdles by the lake with abundant colorful flags fluttering, here are some reflections to give us food for thought.
