We have officially hit the "Dog Days" of summer. Down here in the South, late July means it is 100 degrees in the shade, the humidity is thick enough to cut with a knife, and everyone is moving just a little bit slower. When it is this hot outside, people get lethargic. And believe it or not, that lethargy translates directly to their online buying habits. If your customers have to work hard to figure out what you do, how to contact you, or how to buy your product, they aren't going to do it. They are going to take the path of least resistance and bounce straight to a competitor with a better digital experience. This month, we are talking about digital friction, user experience (UX), and how to make sure your revenue doesn't dry up in the summer heat. Grab a glass of sweet tea, and let’s get into it.

Remove the Friction Imagine walking barefoot across a sizzling asphalt parking lot just to get to a store, only to find out the front door is locked and you have to walk around to the back. You would probably just leave. If your website is clunky, you are putting your customers through the digital equivalent of that hot asphalt. What is Digital Friction? Friction is any step in the user journey that makes the customer pause, get confused, or wait. The 10-Second Rule: If your website takes more than 3 seconds to load on a smartphone, over 50% of your visitors will abandon ship. The Hidden Contact Info: If a warm lead has to click through three different pages just to find your phone number or a contact form, they are going to give up. The Maze: If your navigation menu has 25 different drop-down options filled with industry jargon, you aren't looking smart—you are just overwhelming the buyer.
Your Action Step: Take out your phone right now and go to your own website. Don't use your desktop; use your mobile device. Try to submit a contact form or buy a product. If you find yourself getting annoyed by pop-ups, tiny buttons, or slow pages, your customers are getting annoyed, too. Make it easy for them to hand you their money. Remove the friction.

Out & About in Tupelo: We love building digital communities, but nothing beats showing up in our actual community. Here is what we've been up to lately: Lowkey Summer Fun: This summer has been full of fun as well as a bit more lowkey! From hosting family visits to serving at church, our team has been soaking up the season and loving our community. Sightseeing with Zip: We took our newest (yet oldest!) new teammate, our mascot Zip, out for some local sightseeing! We showed him around to some classic Tupelo spots, including Fair Park, the Elvis Presley Birthplace, and all around Downtown. Keep an eye out—you never know where he might pop up next! Happy Birthday, Adam!: We celebrated one of our incredibly talented Graphic Designers, Adam, this month! We always love taking a moment to celebrate our team members and the creativity he brings to the table every single day.
Check out a few of our favorite snapshots from the month below! 📸
