I myself saw my first robots the other night as two of them somewhat clunkily made deliveries on the tony streets of Coral Gables.
My heart sank as I realized that those two machines represent at least 6 delivery jobs that once sustained living, breathing humans and their families. Bots don’t need pee breaks or health insurance or even wages for that matter, not to mention time off for a cavity filling or sick kid care. They don’t unionize or ever stand up for themselves in any way whatsoever. Awaken to the fact that automation’s here and exploding, leading to projections of up to 25% unemployment within 5 years. Anything close to that would alone be devastating, but AI eliminating jobs represents just one facet of the utterly unrestrained overturn of the world of humanity itself that the (at least somewhat) intrepid among us are doing our best to face.
Look no further for proof that Pandora’s Box has opened than the suit recently filed by parents alleging that ChatGPT coached their teenage son into tragic suicide, or the disturbingly realistic female bots being designed to entirely replace women in men's lives.
