Halfway Through the Year: Is Your Health Insurance Still Working for You?

Let's check on you and your families plan, do you anticipate any changes that yhou didn't plan for when the plan was taken out?

For example Polly has to have surgery that was not anticipated when the plan was taken out, can you switch your plan in the middle of the year, how will thst effect your MOOP (Max Out of Pocket) and the deductible?

If you are not sure if your plan will continue working for you, or if you want to find out if you should change your plan...guess what you can do, call, or text me. And we can come up with a plan that may save you thousands of dollars (not bad for a single phone call).

PRE AEP PREP!!!!!

Its time to start thinking about your current Medicare plan, should you stay or should I go. To my knowledge there should not be any great change with plans, but it is way too early to tell.

What you can do is keep your eye open for new info on the newsletter, if you are going to experience a major change in your plan here is the MeadorCare protocol for informing you.

  • Texting, you will get a text from 540.501.6767 informing you that we need to talk

  • Letter for those who don't respond to the text we will mail a letter asking you to call and have a conversation with us

  • Phone call, we will then reach out to you to go over changes or leave a voice mail asking for you to call

  • after AEP ends, we will again check on those who didn't reach out to us

More to come shortly...

ACA Marketplace Update

I have been trying to get an update about what to expect regarding what next year will look like, and this is my take so far.

It looks like we will see higher rates in 2027, I don't think it will be a 30% increase like it was last year, but I would not be surprised if it was around 10% for 2027

My hope is this will not last long and we may see lower premiums within the next few years.

On a good note, I also have not seen any indication that we will lose an insurance company next year either. In most aeras we serve there are only Sentara and Anthem. I would much rather see 2 than only one carrier.

Ralphie’s Corner:

Could Extra Help Save Money on Prescriptions?

Ralphie says:
Do you have Medicare, or do you help a parent, spouse, relative, or friend with their Medicare coverage?

They may qualify for a program called Extra Help, which can lower the cost of Medicare prescription drug coverage.

Extra Help may reduce:

  • Monthly Part D premiums

  • Prescription deductibles

  • Copays for medications

Some people qualify automatically, while others need to apply through Social Security.

Ralphie’s reminder:
Don’t assume you or your loved one makes too much to qualify. Some income and resources may not count. It never hurts to check. I check the kitchen floor for snacks every day, and sometimes it pays off.

MeadorCare can help explain Extra Help and point you in the right direction. There is no fee for our help.
