MeadorCare June Newsletter...

Halfway Through the Year: Is Your Health Insurance Still Working for You?

Guess what? June is a good time to check your health insurance. We are halfway through the year, which means you may have already used your plan, paid some copays, filled prescriptions, seen specialists, or stared at an insurance bill wondering if it was written in ancient code.

Health insurance is not something you should only think about once a year. Your needs can change during the year, and your plan may not feel the same in June as it did when you first picked it.

This month, MeadorCare is focusing on one important question:

Is your coverage still doing what you need it to do?

Mid-year plan review, here is wat it looks like.

Ask yourself:

  • Are your doctors still in network?

  • Are your prescriptions still covered well?

  • Have your copays been higher than expected?

  • Have you received any confusing bills?

  • Have you had trouble getting referrals or authorizations?

  • Are you putting off care because of cost?

  • Has your income or household changed?

These little details matter. A plan that looked fine on paper in January may feel very different once real life starts using it like a punching bag.

ACA Marketplace Update

Rules around Virginia Marketplace plans are changing, and it is more important than ever to keep your income updated.

If your income has changed and you have not updated your Marketplace application, please do it as soon as possible. Your monthly savings are based on your estimated household income. If that estimate is too low, you could receive more tax credit than you actually qualify for, and that may have to be paid back when you file your taxes.

Starting with 2026 coverage, income mistakes may be a lot more painful than people are used to. So before the IRS turns your “small update” into a “surprise tax bill,” take a few minutes and make sure your income is correct.

ACA Marketplace Reminder: Don’t Guess on Your Income...

APTC (Advanced Premium Tax Credit)

Ralphie would like to remind everyone that guessing your Marketplace income is a risky little game.

If you have an ACA Marketplace plan, your monthly savings are based on the income listed on your application. If your income has changed, whether it went up or down, your application should be updated within 30 days. If the Marketplace gives you too much premium tax credit during the year, you may have to pay some of it back when you file your taxes.

With rules tightening around Marketplace plans, it is more important than ever to keep your information current. A few minutes now could help avoid an unpleasant surprise later.

If you are not sure whether your income is correct on your Marketplace application, MeadorCare can help you review it.

Ralphie knows don't play with cars or with VA Taxes!
