📢 Welcome to Enrollment Season, Y’all!

Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 – December 7

Buckle up—it’s going to be a white-knuckle ride this year.

Medicare plans are changing in big ways: referrals are back, MOOPs (maximum out-of-pocket costs) are rising, and coverage overall is thinning out. That means more gaps in coverage than before.

But don’t worry—I’ve got a plan.

Have you noticed how Medicare premiums don’t change much year to year? The reason is simple: instead of raising premiums, companies adjust the plans by shifting more costs back onto you—higher MOOPs, bigger hospital bills, and larger copays for outpatient surgery.

That’s where ancillary plans come in.
These plans are designed to fill the gaps by helping cover copays and costs for:

  • Cancer

  • Heart attack

  • Stroke

  • Hospital stays

  • Short-term recovery or rehab

We didn’t need them as much in years past, but now? They’re becoming essential.

More details below…

ACA / Marketplace Open Enrollment: November 1 – January 15

Picture William Wallace in Braveheart shouting at his men: “HOLD… HOLD… HOLD!”

That’s kind of where we are right now. The government is shut down, and ACA premiums are set to rise—a lot.

Here’s the reality:

  • Usually, political leaders step in at the last minute to prevent big increases.

  • In the meantime, you’ll see this story everywhere—24-hour news needs content.

  • Both parties know the stakes, and neither wants to be blamed for wrecking ACA coverage for millions of Americans.

So while it looks messy, this fight isn’t over yet. Stay tuned—we’ll keep you updated. And don't be surprised if the ACA gets an extention to keep the premiums low (heard it hear first).

Heres the plan to fill holes in coverage?

  1. Hospitalization Indemnity - gives a check when a person is admitted in the hospital

  2. Cancer - gives a check when a person has a diagnosis of cancer

  3. Heart Attack/Stroke - Check when you have had a HA or Stroke.

  4. Short Term Recovery - Allows for coverage past what the Insurance Company will cover.

Remember if you have a low or no premium, why?? Could it be that you have unseen holes in coverage. Prepare for them now, if you wait it may be to late to get coverage. And if you wait the premium will only go up. Normally premiums are pretty low as well.

Ralphie’s Corner: “Coinsurance vs. Copay — What’s the Difference?”

Hi friends, Ralphie here again! 🐾

Insurance can feel like chasing my tail sometimes, so let’s make it simple with treats (my favorite subject 🍖).

Copay

A copay is a flat fee you pay each time you go to the doctor or pick up a prescription.
👉 Example: Your plan says your doctor visit copay is $25. No matter what the bill is, you just pay $25.
It’s like when Steve gives me one treat every time I sit. Doesn’t matter if it’s a long sit or a short sit—I still get the same one treat. 🦴

Coinsurance

Coinsurance is a percentage of the bill you share with your insurance company after you’ve met your deductible.
👉 Example: If your coinsurance is 20% and the bill is $1,000, you pay $200 and your insurance pays $800.
It’s like when I share a bag of treats with Polly—she gets a few, I get the rest (okay… most of them 😋).

So remember:

  • Copay = flat fee (one treat every time).

  • Coinsurance = shared cost (splitting the bag).

Not so confusing when you think about it in dog terms, huh? 🐾
