"FEEDY" More Foody

Congratulations to Joseph Goodyear, who recently won a Food Lion FEEDY award as the Director of the House of Bread food pantry at Livingstones Tabernacle!

Joseph Goodyear received The Lion Heart Volunteer Award for going above and beyond in engaging donors and volunteers for hunger relief projects.

Under Joseph's leadership, House of Bread has distributed over 1.5 million pounds of food to families in the Hampstead, NC community since 1999!

For over 25 years, Joseph welcomed volunteers into the food pantry's community and mission. This sense of belonging forms the foundation of his work.

Thank you, Joseph, for building a community of volunteers who are committed to nourishing the Hampstead community. House of Bread is open seven days a week and provided over 317,000 meals last year!

We have had so many people say without a pantry like ours, they would not have made it through a

tough time.

CEO REFLECTIONS

The inspiration for Benevolist began in 2016, during a Backpack Buddies donation drive and packing event I was helping to organize. My church had volunteered to support a single elementary school in Raleigh, North Carolina, collecting specific list items given to us by the Interfaith Food Shuttle for forty children identified as food insecure.

As I reviewed the list and did a quick mental calculation, I was struck by the larger reality: if just one school had forty children in need, how many more were there across our city, our state, and the country? The thought of so many kids heading into the weekend uncertain of their next meal was overwhelming—and it compelled me to act.

I had to do something. And now you can do something too, by using Benevolist.org to help children who are without the support of their school meals for an entire summer. Hunger doesn’t take a summer break.

Together we can make a difference!
