Dover woman's toy drive benefits North Carolina children impacted by Hurricane Helene

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio - Heather Jarvis, a Dover resident, has launched a toy drive to support children in North Carolina affected by Hurricane Helene. The natural disaster caused extensive damage and claimed 102 lives in September. Partnering with local churches and schools, Jarvis aims to deliver the toys by mid-December, with logistics support from W&W Transport Inc. Inspired by her son, who is serving in the Army National Guard, Jarvis hopes to bring joy to children in need. “If we can bring simple smiles to the faces of kids, then let’s do it,” she said. The drive is focusing on gifts for middle and high school students, with donations of unwrapped toys, wrapping paper, and tape. Toys can be dropped off at various local businesses until December 9th.

CEO REFLECTIONS

Do you remember that one special toy you so desperately wished for as a child? I do. I spent an entire holiday season dreaming of a Barbie Country Camper and singing the catchy TV jingle. When Christmas morning came and I saw it under the tree, it was absolutely a dream come true for me. That moment was joy in its simplest, most innocent form. And if you can believe it, I still have my Barbie Country Camper!  But today, I think about what it would’ve felt like if that Barbie Camper hadn’t arrived that morning. For too many children, that’s the reality—holidays that come and go without the magic of the gift that they wished for the most.

That’s why we’re inviting you to create a toy drive on Benevolist.org this holiday season. Together, we can ensure every child feels that sense of joy that comes with unwrapping a special gift. Whether it’s a doll, a board game, or a fire truck, your generosity can make all the difference. Let’s spread joy and kindness by coming together to give every child a holiday to remember.

Together we can make a difference!

Cambrie DeWulf and Addie Riley have been working alongside Benevolist on The Holiday 2024 Toy Drive Initiative. The campaign helps organizations bring JOY to children during the holiday season. In the spirit of giving back, Benevolist.org is calling on nonprofits to utilize their free platform to facilitate toy collection drives, ensuring no child goes without a gift this holiday season.

Cambrie DeWulf is a senior at UNC, double majoring in Advertising/Public Relations and Business Administration. This past summer, Cambrie interned at PepsiCo in California, driving territory sales and marketing strategy. On campus, she is involved in Delta Sigma Pi, Carolina Paws for a Cause, and Kesem, a camp that supports children whose parents have cancer.

“In my four years at Carolina, I've aimed to use business as a force for good, creating a tangible impact for my local community. Working alongside Benevolist has provided me the opportunity to do so. Cari and Kendall have been incredible, supportive mentors, who are passionate about Benevolist's mission. I am so grateful to be working with Addie this semester on our Toy Drive Campaign and look forward to the impact we can create,“ shares Cambrie DeWulf.

Addie Riley is a senior at UNC, double majoring in Advertising/Public Relations and Psychology. Addie has found the most fulfillment in working with kids as an elementary school teacher in Charleston, SC. She saw first hand just how challenging school can be for students in underserved communities. While working with kids from grade K-5 was challenging at times, it left an overwhelming desire to advocate for more children.

"Collaborating with Benevolist.org alongside Cambrie has been inspiring and impactful. Every task I have worked on, from creating a drive template to connecting with nonprofits, has deepened my passion for helping others. I’m excited to continue learning from Cari and Kendall this semester,” shares Addie Riley.

“It's not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.”
