Therapy dogs used to uplift firefighters battling massive blaze in Northern California

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - First-responder therapy dogs have been brought in to help uplift firefighters battling the Park Fire in Northern California. “Ember, Ember, and Hudson reporting for duty at the #ParkFire!” Cal Fire posted on X, formerly Twitter. “We are here to help the humans with their mental health while assigned to the incident and away from their other humans and fur friends.” The three therapy dogs recently arrived at a base camp in Butte County, local authorities said. The Park Fire, the largest wildfire in California this year and the sixth largest in the state’s recorded history, had scorched 383,000 acres as of Tuesday afternoon. The massive blaze is one of more than 100 large active wildfires currently burning across the United States.

CEO REFLECTIONS

It seems like each time I turn on the news there is another major disaster that has occurred... hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, flooding... a constant barrage. It's so very easy to become desensitized to all this bad news, especially if you’re not directly affected. But please consider the people in the crosshairs of these disasters who need relief. Not only the victims, but also the first responders and the recovery workers and volunteers who stay back after the crisis is averted, to help clean-up and rebuild homes and lives. If you’d like to help, consider donating to their item collection drives on Benevolist.org. You can search for drives on our website by keyword, state, or cause. Today we’re featuring Third Wave Volunteers and here’s their Benevolist drive: Click Here to Donate Items.

Together we can make a difference!

Cari Newton, Founder & CEO

Third Wave Volunteers is a disaster relief non-profit that mobilizes for natural and man-made disasters with first responders and volunteers for the past 24 years. According to Dr. Alison, one of their key initiatives is to arrive with solar lights on every mission. In addition to medical and non-medical supplies, solar lanterns have become a hallmark of Third Wave's service to their communities. They are practical as a source of much needed light when electricity is scarce or non-existent. “The solar lanterns are magic - when we give them to people we feel like we are Santa Claus lighting up the darkest places of the world. It’s fun clean energy and it always turns into a celebration of light which brings love, warmth and safety,“ shares Dr. Alison.
