Weekly series: Lesson learned from little humans!

Dear {{contact.first_name}}

Happy Monday!

Are you noticing more children getting very angry these days? I walked into a classroom the other day and noticed, Jake a 4-year-old who was angry- really angry almost furious. He was kicking the furniture, crying, screaming, grunting and yelling. He seemed like he was totally out of control.

The rest of the class was sitting and doing a whole group activity on drawing animals, I decided to sit next to this little boy and spend some time with him connecting.

“What’s your favorite animal?” I asked him. “Tiger.” He responds in a grumbly voice. “Let’s try to draw a tiger together.” I said to him as I put the paper on the table for him to draw on.

I noticed very quickly many different emotions coming up in him as we started drawing the tiger together:  Perfectionism. Frustration. Embarrassment, and anxiety. Watch the full video.

He made me realize in that moment that the anger he was expressing at the beginning of the activity was only the tip of the iceberg and was not the root of the problem. With all these other emotions bubbling inside of him, he was inhibited from completing the lesson in a calm and successful manner.

I told him that he had a very smart brain which he had to say some secret words to, in order to help him overcome these difficult moments and emotions.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect.” And “I haven’t mastered it” He repeated after me with a slight smile and almost a sense of relief which came across his face.

Check out the full video here! In the video I share helpful tips for the teachers to manage these emotions and outbursts.

If you want to handle angry outbursts before they even start you need to master the skills I teach in my training and coaching sessions. One of the things I teach is that all behavior is a form of communication, and that all behavior has meaning when you understand that then you can respond appropriately.

I also teach about child development and current brain research, and I show teachers like you how you can decode any behavior and give the correct response to drastically change your classroom. Children become happier, engaged in learning and the teachers can run smooth relaxed and joyful classrooms.

During my coaching sessions, you will learn about effective strategies to reduce challenging behaviors before they become outbursts and engage the brain for learning with lots of practical, effective, and impactful strategies.

Are you ready to become a confident responder to children’s anger? Are you also ready to lead your staff in addressing these behaviors leading to a better work environment for everyone resulting to less staff turnover?

My coaching provides ongoing accountability and support, meets the teachers where you are and improves your teaching craft and empowers you to become the best teachers you can be.
