Operation Robber Baron

Honoring Senior Ryan Harms

"At Concordia Academy, Ryan has matured from a boy who wasn't sure he would even do his assignments and refused to read any books outside of school into a young man who is responsible; ponders questions of faith, philosophy, and duty; and willingly reads different kinds of books. As he prepares to pursue a career in auctioneering (which got started at CAW!), our hopes for Ryan's future are that he seeks first the kingdom of God and His righteousness in all things and puts his talents to work for the glory of God and the good of his neighbors and his country." -  Love, Mom & Dad

Operation Robber Baron

Ryan Harms is a career-long Concordia Academy student who came to the school in its first year, after graduating from Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School, which is also his home congregation.

Ryan comes from a sizeable lively family of six, being a middle child of four kids. It should therefore be of no shock that he knows how to break the ice among the students and make the student body one connected group with his insights on politics and other world events.

Ryan has a long history in the Boy Scouts and has recently been awarded the ultimate rank of Eagle Scout. He acquired the nickname Moonbeam in the Scouts due to his unwillingness to be called Sunshine. His other extra-curricular activities include soccer (5th-8th grade), track (6th-11th grade), and trap shooting, which he has participated in since his freshman year. Ryan has also played trombone in a local jazz band since his 8th grade year.

Ryan credits his parents for his strong upbringing in the faith, as well as his introduction of classical education through Concordia Academy (after initially being skeptical). He says going to this school was the “biggest change in his life” and now credits it for making him much more mature and fostering his intellect. In his time at Concordia Academy, he has served the school government in a few different roles, most recently, as the vice president. His fondest memory of his time at Concordia Academy is being the auctioneer for the school’s first gun auction. He says that this was his realization that he wanted to pursue a career in auctioneering.

Ryan tries to emulate his grandfather in every way that he can, and marks him as a main driver in his transition to manhood. In this pursuit, he expressed that he does not want to draw attention to himself, but to still be remembered as a helpful guy. He says that he strives to embody the virtue of helpfulness. This is evident in his willingness to help both students and faculty to accomplish tasks, such as replacing the batteries in our bus, switching the church’s heater to A/C, or helping the teachers figure out all of their techno-malities.

He said that if his life had a theme song, it would be “Should Have Been a Cowboy” by Toby Keith. This is because although he has lived in a suburban neighborhood his whole life, he wishes he lived in the country.
