An intimate apprenticeship for accomplished singers ready to expand their musicianship.

A Ï M

spiritual embodiment

You already have a voice. What becomes possible when nothing stands between what you hear and what you sing?

I created Vocal Alchemy to explore that question: bringing vocal technique, ear training, improvisation and composition into one integrated practice.

This fall, I’m opening the first cohort: five intimate gatherings in Harlem, NY, for six accomplished singers ready to expand their musicianship through listening, experimentation and collective creation.

VOCAL ALCHEMY

An apprenticeship in the Art of Listening

A high-touch creative laboratory to expand the edges of your musicianship through vocal practice, harmonic listening, improvisation, composition, and collective creation.

Limited to 6 vocalists

Harlem Home Studio, NYC

Wednesdays · 5:00–8:00 PM

September 30

October 14

October 28

November 11

November 18

Founding Cohort Tuition: $333

With only six voices in the room, the work can respond closely to the musicianship, questions, creative edges, and compositions each singer brings.

Registration closes September 18 or when all six places are filled.

IS THIS FOR YOU?

This apprenticeship is designed for accomplished singers who are ready to expand their musicianship through rigorous listening, experimentation, and collective practice.

Whether your background is jazz, folk, experimental, classical, traditional, or self-directed, the essential prerequisites are artistic maturity, self-leadership, curiosity, commitment, and a desire for mutual expansion.

The Practice

Vocal Alchemy brings together four dimensions of musicianship that are too often studied separately:

VOICE

Technical freedom, dexterity & embodied vocal practice.

EAR

Interval awareness, modal fluency, harmonic listening & tuning.

ENSEMBLE

Choral improvisation, spontaneous composition & the practice of listening in relation.

COMPOSITION LAB

Bring your unfinished work. Songs, sketches, fragments, concepts and improvisations become material for collective exploration. Together, we'll become the vocal ensemble your music needs.

Between gatherings, a growing library of guided vocal exercises and the AÏM Commons will support individual practice, exchange and creative momentum.

Through the cohort, you can expect to deepen and expand:

  • Vocal freedom, dexterity & expressive range

  • Harmonic agency, interval awareness & modal fluency

  • Playfulness in melodic, harmonic & choral improvisation

  • Creative leadership within an ensemble

  • Your compositional voice through experimentation with an accomplished vocal ensemble

  • A listening practice that deepens artistic discernment and relational intelligence

If this speaks to you,

reply to this email with “Vocal Alchemy”

You can also tell me a little about where you are in your musical practice and what draws you to the apprenticeship. I’ll follow up personally with next steps and answer any questions.

If you’re unsure whether your current level or musical background is a fit, feel free to reply and ask.

I’m looking forward to building this first cohort with great care.

Warmly,

Anaïs
