In today's issue, I share some key takeaways from Single Grain's CEO and founder Eric Siu’s presentation at Nathan Latka's conference “SaaS Open 2023” in New York. He discussed SaaS SEO Shortcuts that Drive $10M+ ARR, building a media moat, and more.

Before Single Grain, Eric used his experience to accelerate an online education company’s growth when it was on the brink of bankruptcy. A modern-day marketing Lazarus, Eric purchased Single Grain for $2 in 2014 (that’s not a typo) back when it was an SEO agency gasping for its last breath.

About Single Grain

Single Grain is an award-winning digital marketing agency focused on driving scalable and predictable revenue growth using Facebook advertising, Google Ads, YouTube advertising, SEO, video production, content marketing, and Web3 Services, such as crypto marketing and NFT promotional services.

They’ve worked with companies such as Amazon, Uber, and Salesforce, and venture-backed startups to create and execute custom-tailored growth strategies. His podcast Marketing School with Neil Patel has reached around 80 million downloads. His other project, Leveling Up, has about 6-7 million downloads.

Regarding their monthly expenses for their site which drives 20 million visits per month, they spend approximately $40,000. Their team is responsible for creating 11 articles per week, with 50 being brand-new pieces of content and the remaining 50 being content refreshes.

PS As a testament to their digital marketing expertise, they have a digital marketing blog with over 350k visitors per month and a YouTube channel with more than 65k subscribers.

Advice to Other Founders

You don't have to be an extremely prolific creator to succeed.

A framework they frequently use is to repurpose content into different formats like shorts, reels, and podcasts. From the initial content, create shorter audio and video clips and promote them through channels you own, including your email list.

If have some capital, buy a website that has a high domain authority.

Their SEO and domain authority are particularly strong, attracting hundreds of thousands of visits. This provides them with leverage, enabling them to sell leads or even double the number of leads generated. SU is an excellent asset, but when combined with these other factors, you can become unstoppable.

Content marketing and SEO shouldn't solely focus on producing new content.

It's essential to prioritize content that performs well. Tools like Ahrefs or Neil's Uber Suggest can be helpful in this regard. Refreshing existing content yields more value for your investment. HubSpot, for example, invests heavily in hiring individuals specifically for content refreshment.

Prioritize building attention and community.

This is the key strategy followed by the top creators, such as Mr. Beast and Liquid Death. Establishing a strong audience base comes before developing a monetization model. The specific monetization method can be figured out later, as it holds less significance in comparison to cultivating a dedicated following.
