In today's issue, I share some key takeaways from a recent interview between Nathan Latka, the host of Daily Interviews with SaaS Founders, and Ashish Aggarwal, the founder of AppBroda. They discussed how he did $2m in revenue helping game developers generate $30m in ad revenue last 12 months.
Ashish started as an independent game developer and was facing difficulties in monetizing his games through ads. He realized that other game developers were also facing the same problem. This led him to start working on a solution to help game developers monetize their games through ads.
About AppBroda
AppBroda is a SaaS platform that helps game developers monetize their games by optimizing their in-game ads. The company was launched in 2021 and has since helped over 320 individual developers monetize their 1,400 games.
This platform allows developers to integrate multiple ad networks into their games and manage them in one place. This saves developers time and effort in managing ad networks and maximizes their ad revenue potential.
Ashish Aggarwal has been leading the company since its inception and has put them in the category of a profitable, bootstrapped company.
PS AppBroda operates on a revenue-sharing model, where they keep 8-12% of the ad revenue generated by the games on their platform.
Challenges
Building credibility.
As a new player in the market, Ashish had to build credibility and gain the trust of his target audience. He had to convince game developers to work with him and prove that his platform could deliver results. They were initially bootstrapped and had to make do with limited resources.
Advice to Other Founders
Use your "SaaS-trology" to predict success.
Like a horoscope, your SaaS product needs to align with the stars to be successful. Leverage machine learning and data analytics to predict customer behavior and optimize your product. You don't need a crystal ball, just some smart algorithms and data analysis.
Make friends with ad networks.
It's not just about what you know, it's also about who you know. Build relationships with ad networks to ensure that you have a steady stream of revenue for your SaaS product. Think of it like building your own personal ad network army!
Metrics, metrics, metrics!
It's important to measure the success of your product using key metrics. Think of it like a report card for your SaaS product. Keep track of metrics like fill rate, eCPM, and revenue per user to ensure that you're on track for success.
Bonus
- Follows Nathan Latka and Rajan, the Google India CEO from 2014 to 2020.
- Gets 9 hours of sleep every night.
- Something he wishes he knew when he was 20 is to fall forward. It’s a great quote from Denzel Washington. He thinks persistence is important for falling forward and it embodies that in a good, articulate manner.
TL;DR
In 2021, Ashish Aggarwal launched Appbroda. Today, he helps over 320 individual developers monetize their 1400 games. He helped them process 20 to 30 million dollars of ad revenue over the past 12 months, of which he keeps 8% to 12%. So, call it a two million run rate for the business that's up over 100% year over year since last year. They're bootstrapped and now targeting a million bucks in revenue per employee, which we certainly hope he hits. The company's called Appbroda.com.
