In today's issue, I share some key takeaways from a recent interview between Nathan Latka, the host of Daily Interviews with SaaS Founders, and Alex Berman, the CEO and founder of Omni. They discussed how to clone an existing company and hit $10k MRR in under 6 months.

Before focusing on digital agencies, Alex worked as the Director of Marketing at Dom & Tom, an NYC mobile app development company and three-time INC 5000 agency winner. He also creates weekly YouTube videos, helping agency owners to:

  • Grow their businesses and bring in more revenue
  • Teach them how to optimize B2B sales cycles
  • Put inbound marketing strategies in place

About Omni

Omni.us is a SaaS company that provides a platform for identifying and sending leads. The company was launched six months ago with 50/50 ownership between Berman and a partner he met at First Principles. They split the revenue equally and have been doing $10k a month in revenue.

Alex Berman cloned an existing company by identifying a business that was already making money and had a proven model, then creating a similar version of it.  They hired an agency called Sales Momentum to set up their HubSpot automation and emails correctly, which contributed to their success.

Berman also talked about his previous experience in the startup world, including his first company, Inspired Beats, which didn't go so well, and his second company, Hunter, which was acquired by Lemlist for $2.5 million.

PS Omni now has 167 paying customers, and they operate under two websites –- omni.us and Leadshark.

Challenges

Customer acquisition and retention.

Berman talked about the challenge of acquiring and retaining customers. He emphasized the importance of listening to customer feedback and making sure the product was meeting their needs. They also had some hiccups in generating leads for Omni.us in the early days.

Advice to Other Founders

Identify a successful business model and replicate it.

Berman's success with Omni.us was largely based on identifying a proven business model and replicating it with minor adjustments to create his own company. Look for successful companies in your niche, identify what they are doing right, and find a way to do it better.

Create a repeatable and scalable process.

Berman achieved rapid growth with Omni.us by creating a repeatable and scalable process for lead generation and customer acquisition. Focus on creating a process that can be replicated across different channels and avoid relying on one-off marketing campaigns or other tactics that are not scalable.

Don't be afraid to pivot.

Learn from past mistakes and continuously iterate to improve your product and the company. Alex's previous startup, Inspired Beats, didn't work out, but he was able to pivot into a new business model and eventually achieve success with Omni.us. Be willing to experiment and try new things to find what works.

Bonus

  1. Alex Berman’s favorite book is “The 4-Hour Workweek” by Timothy Ferriss.
  2. He loves Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks.
  3. Berman's favorite tool is HubSpot.
  4. He wished he knew how easy it was to clone a business that already existed when he was 20.

TL;DR

Omni.us was launched by Alex and a partner he met named Amine at First Principles. They split it 50/50 in terms of percentage, doing $10k a month in revenue, and just launched six months ago. They have 167 paying customers, and their websites are Omni.us and Leadshark. They help you identify leads, and then obviously Omni is what you would use to actually send the leads out and close them, bring them in. He's got a lot of experience in the startup world. His first company, Inspired Beats, didn't go so well, but his second one, called Hunter, was just acquired by Lemlist for $2.5 million. He's now a free bird, traveling the world and building his new thing.
