Here today, I’ll be sharing with you interesting key points from the interview between Nathan Latka, the host of Daily interviews with SaaS Founders, and James O'Neill, the Co-founder and CEO of WildJar on how he built and bootstrapped his first Startup with six people in his team and an annual recurring revenue of $4m.

WildJar is a sophisticated call attribution and call intelligence solution. It is a co-tracking and analytics platform that helps businesses understand which digital marketing channels drive inbound phone leads, what happens on the calls, and the conversations, and then integrate that core data into whatever technology stack they're using.

How WildJar Started:

James had a passion for everything data and how it can be manipulated to make better data-driven decisions across marketing channels. He has always been focused on making businesses more successful and realized the true power of cloud based software solutions to maximize ROI. This led to the inception of a call-tracking and analytics software, WildJar in 2016.

When WildJar started, it started as a product led platform and then shifted to hiring some people, and sales development teams. The company tried to go down that sales development outreach way (where you hire salespeople to prospect and bring in the deals for you), but it didn't really work out for them.

So they had to shift back to pure products, inbound strategy and yeah, it's been the best model for them sticking to stick to so far.

Since it's launching in 2016, WildJar has become a leader in delivering cutting edge solutions. They’ve helped more than 5,000 companies worldwide with our voice and SMS solutions.

Challenges:

WildJars started as a product-led platform, but they realized that going down that sales development way wasn't working for them. It was making them lose money, so they shifted back to pure sales with an inbound strategy, and it's been the best model for them to stick to.

Advice to Other Founders:

1.       Be passionate towards anything you do. The best thing you can do is to have a passion for what you're doing, and make sure it's something you're driven to achieve.

2.       Be analytical as well. You need to be able to think critically about your process, what works and what doesn't, and why certain things work better than others.

3.       Your customer’s expectations are important to you, it is the foundation of our business. You need to meet and exceed their expectations because you know that if you can do that, they will talk about your product or service with their friends and family, which means more exposure for your business.

Bonuses:

1.       A business book James read called "Traction" by Gino Wickman talks about getting a Grip on one’s business.

2.       James' favorite online tool for building his business besides Wild Jar (at the time of this interview) is Slack.

3.       Something James wished he knew while he was 20 was how to Bootstrap a startup.

TL:DR:

WildJar has helped businesses become wildly successful by providing cutting-edge voice and SMS solutions. Founded in 2016, it has helped more than 4,000 companies worldwide drive revenue and connect their customer's online journey to offline purchasing behavior. Businesses and marketers now have complete attribution and analytics to measure call outcomes and ROI.

With WildJar, voice Platform, and businesses get granular campaign attribution to understand why customers are calling, real-time intelligence about who's calling, and analyze what's being said during conversations to improve outcomes. Each call is linked to individual customer records so that businesses can see exactly who is calling and why—and then adjust their sales strategy accordingly.
