From the Pastor's Desk

Dear Countryside family,

We are shaped by the places we inhabit: our homes, our schools, our workplaces, our towns, third spaces, places of our past, our present, and even the futures we anticipate. Place matters. This Advent, we’ll explore the significance of the places that shape our faith and lives with a worship series called “The Manger: A Place of Belonging” inspired by Rev. Rob Fuquay’s new book, On the Way to Bethlehem. 

The manger as we’ve known it doesn’t necessarily seem like a place of belonging. We remember it as the place of “no room,” humble if not downright dirty. And yet the Living God of Love and Grace met humanity there, welcomed humanity there. And the manger was, of course, situated within a much larger landscape of people and places. The echoes of the places associated with Jesus’s birth ripple through time and continue to speak into our lives today. Join us this Advent as we journey through distant yet familiar places and revisit dear people of our faith history. May we discover anew the miracle of finding our place in God through the birth of Emmanuel, God with us.
