Improve Your Putting with Better Distance Control
Want to eliminate three-putts? Focus less on making every long putt and more on controlling your speed.
When practicing, spend time hitting putts from 20, 30, and 40 feet with the goal of finishing every ball within a 3-foot circle of the hole. Don’t worry about whether the putt goes in — focus on matching the speed of the greens and controlling how far the ball rolls.
Quinn’s Tip: Before your round, hit several long putts across the practice green instead of immediately putting to a hole. This will help you learn the speed of the greens and develop better feel before you head to the first tee.
Better speed = shorter second putts = fewer three-putts.
