Pro Tip with Quinn Mitchell: Let the Club Release Naturally

One of the biggest mistakes golfers make is trying to “flip” or aggressively rotate the club through impact. A simple way to understand the proper feeling is to imagine you’re swinging a tennis racket.

When you hit a tennis ball, you don’t violently turn the racket over to send the ball left or right. Instead, your body rotates, your hands react naturally, and the racket releases smoothly through the shot.

The golf swing works the same way.

Rather than forcing your hands to roll over, focus on making a balanced turn through the ball. As your chest and hips continue rotating toward the target, the clubface will naturally square itself. This creates more consistent contact, better ball flight, and improved accuracy.

Quinn’s Tip: The next time you’re at the range, make a few slow practice swings imagining you’re holding a tennis racket. Feel your body leading the motion while your hands stay relaxed. Then recreate that same feeling with your golf club—you may be surprised how much more effortless your swing becomes.

A smooth release beats a forced release every time.
