Starting Tomorrow!

Tee it Forward!

Dear Members,

At Avondale Golf Club, we’re committed to making golf more enjoyable, fun, and accessible for everyone. In line with modern recommendations from the USGA, GCSAA and PGA, we support the “Tee It Forward” initiative, which encourages golfers to play from tees that match their distance ability. The below is primarily a recommendation, not a "policy" or a "must".

Why We Are Doing This

Modern golf facilities are designed with flexibility in mind, offering multiple teeing options so every golfer—beginner, intermediate, or seasoned—can enjoy the game. Our adoption is intended to:

  • Improve pace of play: Shorter, more manageable holes keep everyone moving smoothly.

  • Increase enjoyment: Hitting greens in regulation feels better and reduces frustration.

  • Promote health and safety: Playing from the right distance reduces fatigue and stress on your body.

  • Align with modern course design: Leading golf organizations encourage variety and forward-thinking tee placements to make golf more fun for all.

This Year’s Update – New Tee Colors

To support this modern approach, we have modified our teeing colors:

  • Black, Blue, Blue/White, White, Yellow, Yellow/Green and Green

  • New Yellow/Green combo for added flexibility for those in between teeing grounds

  • The Blue/White and Yellow/Green are not physical teeing grounds but rather noted on the scorecard on which tee box to play on each hole.

    Important Notes

    • This does not affect your handicap OR course rating UNLESS you choose to move up tee boxes

    • Minor course yardage updates are in place with new teeing grounds and on tee boxes we have desired to give members more "teeing options".

    • We are eligible for a full course rerate in 2027.

    • Please ignore the color plates on teeing grounds as they have been moved around. They will soon be painted to match each teeing ground.

This model communicates that teeing selection should be based primarily on ability, not gender.

We understand changing tee colors can create some confusion in conversations, but the bottom line is your teeing ground did not change; just the color designation to make navigation easier and more consistent with modern golf standards.

Educational Tip – Tee It Forward Based on Your 7-Iron Distance

The USGA, GCSAA and PGA recommend selecting tees based on your 7 iron to ensure your round is challenging but enjoyable:

Playing from the right tee for your game improves pace, reduces fatigue, and makes each round more fun; it’s not about skill level, it’s about enjoying golf the way it’s meant to be.

We encourage you to consider which tees best fit your game this season. Our Professional Staff is happy to guide you so every round is more enjoyable. Together, we can make golf at Avondale Golf Club fun and accessible for all skill levels.

Sincerely,

Austin Westphal, PGA
